Mona Lisa Art Party

Mona Lisa Art A Mona Lisa Art Party gives kids who love to draw and paint a way to showcase their special talents.

You provide a few basic art supplies and they'll provide the creativity!

Budding artists will love making and showing their own masterpieces in your party gallery....

Art Party Invitations

Mona Lisa Invitation - Find a picture of the Mona Lisa and print it in the size of a party invitation (approx. 3 x 5 inches). Cut out Mona Lisa’s face and glue in the smiling face of the party child. (This could be done on your computer). Under the picture write the first line below: "Know why she’s smiling?", and the rest of the verse inside the invitation.

Know why she’s smiling?

She’s having a birthday party....

and she’d love you to come!

Melissa’s Art Gallery

Date of Opening: (party date)

First Showing: (time)

Come ready to create a masterpiece!

Send a couple of 3 x 5 index cards along with the party invitation and instruct party guests to draw an original creation on the unlined back side and send them back with the RSVP.

Place the artwork in simple glass clip style frames and mount them on a small painted craft fence or an inexpensive room divider, along with name-of-artist labels under each one. When your guests arrive, they will be amazed that their own personal artwork is on display in your "gallery"!

Art Party Cake -

Paintbox cake -

Bake a 9 x 13 inch sheet cake as well as 6 additional cupcakes. When the cake cools, take it out of the pan and frost it with white frosting. Carefully trim the tops off the cupcakes using a sharp knife.

Frost the tops in various bright primary colors, by tinting the white frosting with food coloring. Lay the six cupcake tops on the top of the sheet cake to make the "paints". Lay a large paintbrush alongside the cake.

Modern Art Masterpiece Cake -

Bake a 9 x 13 cake and cool. Frost with white frosting. (White fondant frosting can be used for a smoother look.) Dilute a few different bright colors of food coloring - red, blue, green, and yellow in separate cups. Take a paint brush, wet in one of the colors, and splatter on the cake. Repeat with all colors, covering the entire surface of the cake.

Make a frame around the perimeter of the cake with pretzels or flat straight candy bars. Your finished cake will resemble a Modern Art Classic!

Art Party Decorations -

Hang a length of white butcher paper on the wall and have guests color a design on it and sign their name as a keepsake for the party child. This will provide an easy hands-on decoration for a large wall space.

Add a few easels with some unfinished artwork sitting on each one, along with some paintboxes or pallettes, jars filled with paintbrushes, and other signs of an art studio.

In another roomy area - the Gallery - display guests’ framed creations so everyone can view everyone else’s masterpieces. Hang some sheets about with your child’s artwork pinned to them...

Tie a dozen helium balloons in bunches of three and position around the gallery.

Art Party Costumes -

Dress the party child in a loose smock with smatters of fabric paint all over it. Make a couple of paint smudges on the child’s face and let her hold a traditional oval paint pallette (can be made from stiff cardboard and colors drawn on in marker) and a paintbrush. Add a colorful beret and the look will be complete!

As guests arrive, give each one a long white t-shirt to keep their clothes clean while they're creating. You might also add a colorful kids apron with your child’s name and party date printed in fabric paint, such as "Melissa’s Birthday Party, July 16". Guests get to keep their aprons as a remembrance of the party.

Art Party Activities and Crafts -

Set up various stations for different types of artwork - drawing, coloring, painting, clay molding, potato stamping, making collages from old magazines, etc. Try these activities:

Soap Bubble Art - Learn to make unique creations with soap bubbles on paper!

Long Distance Draw - Attach a few different colored markers, crayons or brushes to sticks a couple of feet long. Kids use them to create a unique work of art.

Draw a Cat While Blindfolded - Set up a play easel and blindfold the first guest. Give him or her a marker and instruct them to draw a cat on the easel paper. For older kids, have them take their drawing hand off the paper after each stroke - this makes it a little more difficult!

Gather guests around to watch the artist's progress - this is good for a few laughs. Best cat drawing gets a prize.

Try one of these craft activity sets and let your budding artists get to work!

FRIENDS AND RELATIVES NOT SURE WHAT TO GET YOUR PARTY CHILD FOR A GIFT?

HERE ARE SOME GREAT IDEAS:

Get a large ornate gold frame, at least 16 x 20 inches, (or make one from a large rectangle of cardboard) and take polaroid pictures of each party guest inside the frame - their smiling self-portraits! These make great party favors.
