Circus Tent/Circus Animal Invitation

Make your circus invitation out of colored construction paper shaped like a circus tent, or your child's favorite circus animal. Personalize and print out the words above on white or buff paper and paste to the tent.

If you have a digital camera, take a picture of the birthday child with a
clown wig , clown nose,   oversized glasses and a big smile. Cut and paste it into the invitation and work the words around it.

For a more professional look, make your custom party invitations through Shutterfly, the internet's most popular photo site. Let them do all the work, while your unique party invitation gets all the raves!

circus tent Make a separate circus admission ticket by cutting out a small rectangle with pinking shears or other fancy edging scissors. Write "Admit One" in the center, day and showtime, etc. Include this in the envelope with your invitation.

Circus Clown Invitation
Make a clown invitation by cutting a circle for the face and a triangle for the hat from colored construction paper. Make simple crosses for the eyes, a big red circle for a nose, and a wide slit for the mouth. Unroll a party blower and write all the party information along it. Place inside the clown's mouth. Mail in a padded envelope or hand-deliver.

Circus Party Cakes -

Circus Train Cake
To make this cake, divide batter into 3 small loaf pans or buy 3 small pound cakes. Frost the "circus cars" and transform them into animal cages by placing animal crackers on the sides and adding bars made of frosting or string licorice. Add frosted vanilla cookie or oreo cookie wheels. Line up your circus cars and insert candles to form the train's engine stack.

Circus Clown Cake
Make and frost an angel food or bundt cake. The secret is to have a hole in the middle of the cake. You will also need two cupcakes or muffins. Frost one of them and place it in the hole in the cake. The top part will form the puppet's collar.

Now frost the top and sides of the second cupcake and place it right side up over the first cupcake. Use candy to make a face on the side of the top cupcake. Give the cupcake clown an ice cream sugar cone hat with a jellybean stuck in frosting on the peak. Decorate the rest of the cake with brightly colored candies and sprinkles.

Balloon Bunch Cupcakes
Frost at least a dozen cupcakes in assorted vibrant colors of red, blue, green and yellow. You'll want at least one for each party guest. Arrange cupcakes on a large serving tray and tape a length of colorful curling ribbon to each one. Tie ribbons together and curl to finish your balloon bunch.

Circus Party Decorations -

Inflatable Neon Monkeys

One of our most popular circus party ideas is a balloon archway for your guests to walk through upon arrival - it's easier than you think!

Just inflate balloons with helium and attach to a string about every 12 inches. Tie one end of the string to a tent stake or other anchor. Now you can estimate how tall you would like the archway to be. When finished, secure the other end of the string in the same manner as the first.

As balloons are inflated, they will float up and form a beautiful arch! Make this the gateway for partygoers to gain admittance to your "fairgrounds"!

Next stop is your circus tent and ticket booth where guests must present their admission tickets to the Greatest Show on Earth - your party!

Hang crepe paper streamers over the party table to resemble a tent. Add lots of primary colored balloons - yellow, red, and blue - throughout the party area. Hang like colored crepe paper from doorways (like 60's bead curtains). If outside, use a striped canopy or sheet hung from a tree.

For a fun circus atmosphere, group these circus animal balloons around the party area.

Make a sign that says something like: "Welcome to the Johnson Fair" (use your name) or take a look at this personalized circus banner.

Purchase several colorful pinwheels and place throughout the circus "fairgrounds". Use your child's stuffed animals as circus props.

Circus Party Costumes -

For the Party Child -
Purchase a plain colored T-shirt and have your child's name put on it as the ringmaster of the party, such as "Tyler's Bigtop Circus". Top off the look with this
silk top hat.

Clown Face Face Painting -
A circus party just screams for face painting! Imagine the clowns, lions and monkeys you could create! Or just keep it simple by coloring noses red, outlining mouths in white, and making cross lines over eyes. Soon you'll be knee deep in little Bozos! These face paint markers will make your job easy.

Here's a great clown model for you to follow, cleverly painted by Natasha Wood of Jolly Good Productions, UK

Another great circus party idea: add jumbo eyeglasses and clown noses to complete the Bozo "look".

Cotton Candy Making -
**BEST Circus Party Idea!**

I highly recommend renting or purchasing a cotton candy machine. We made cotton candy at my daughter's recent birthday party and her friends just couldn't stay away from the machine! It's as much fun to make as it is to eat - maybe more!

Adults love the sweet confection too. Besides, what's a circus without cotton candy? If you can't find a machine, try these pre-packaged bags of cotton candy. You can even give them as party favors.

Snow Cone Making
Having a Snow Cone Maker is a great complement to the cotton candy maker, especially on a hot day. Kids never tire of cool sugary snacks!

Popcorn Stand
An authentic popcorn machine adds to the circus ambiance, if only for the heavenly aroma it brings! Or, make lots of popcorn in advance and serve it in these cute red and white striped popcorn containers.
